What makes Leeds Arts University distinctive

Leeds Arts University traces back to 1846, making it one of the oldest art schools in the UK. Henry Moore studied here. Damien Hirst studied at the predecessor institution. The school has a long tradition in fine art, fashion, and illustration in particular, and remains the only specialist art and design university in the north of England.

For visitors, the show is genuinely accessible and Yorkshire-based. The audience tends to be local rather than London-led, which gives Leeds a different commercial dynamic from London grad shows.

Tips for visiting

  • Pair both campuses. Vernon Street and Blenheim Walk are 15 minutes apart on foot.
  • Combine with The Tetley. Five minutes from Leeds station, contemporary art space worth a separate visit.
  • Henry Moore Institute is in central Leeds and a relevant stop for sculpture-interested visitors.
  • The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is 25 minutes drive south of Leeds for a longer day.
  • Monitor the Leeds Arts University events page for 2026 dates as they publish.
