Ruskin School of Art Degree Show 2026: dates, venue, and what to expect

The Ruskin School of Art is the University of Oxford's department of fine art, the only practice-based art programme in the University. Its annual Degree Show is small, well curated, and one of the few UK shows where the BFA and MFA cohorts exhibit together. The Ruskin has confirmed that the 2026 show runs from Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 June with the full run typically extending to mid-week. When is the Ruskin Degree Show 2026?

The 2026 show opens on the weekend of Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June. Based on the 2025 pattern, the full run extends through to mid-week, roughly 20 to 24 June 2026.

2025 opening hours, used here as a planning proxy until 2026 hours publish:

  • Saturday and Sunday: 12pm to 6pm
  • Weekdays: 12pm to 5pm

Where to find it

The Degree Show happens at the Bullingdon Road Studios, 128 Bullingdon Road, Oxford OX4 1QP. This is the Ruskin's main practice studio building, off Cowley Road in east Oxford.

The school's administrative address is the historic Old Music Hall, 108 Cowley Road, Oxford OX4 1JE, but the show itself is at the studios, not the music hall. Don't confuse the two.

Getting there:

  • Rail: Oxford station is around 25 minutes walk or 8 minutes by bus.
  • Bus: Cowley Road buses 1, 5, U1 stop two minutes from the studios.
  • Cycle: Oxford is a cycling city; the studios are easy to reach from the centre or the Cowley Road.
  • Walk from Magdalen Bridge: about 12 minutes.

Private view and opening night

2026 private view details are not yet confirmed on the Ruskin page. The 2025 private view was a public RSVP event on Friday 20 June 2025, 7pm to 10pm, free.

Who is showing

The Ruskin programmes:

  • BFA (Bachelor of Fine Art): capped at 30 students per year.
  • MFA (Master of Fine Art): capped at 20 students per year.

In 2025 the BFA show featured 31 students. The MFA cohort sits alongside on shared show floors, and MFA students help curate and install the show as part of their final-year coursework.

The Ruskin specifies its disciplines as painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation, and performance.

What makes the Ruskin distinctive

A few things worth knowing.

Scale. The Ruskin is much smaller than any of the major UAL colleges or the RCA. Around 50 graduates each year across BFA and MFA. That gives every artist substantial space, and the show feels closer to a curated exhibition than a degree show.

Oxford context. The Ruskin sits inside one of the world's oldest universities, with a constant flow of international visitors during summer. Buyers tend to include college tutors, alumni, and Oxford-based collectors who do not turn up at London shows.

MFA-curates-the-show model. MFA students at the Ruskin take responsibility for installing and curating the degree show as part of their programme. The result is a more thoughtfully hung show than the average UK BA, and the MFA cohort gets a working curatorial credit out of it.

The Ruskin's own framing: the Degree Show "is a celebration of the outstanding creativity and hard work of our young artists and features painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation, and performance." MFA students work in "an exceptional artistic environment, distinct from larger art schools in the UK."

Tips for visiting

  • Pair with an Oxford day out. The Ashmolean, Magdalen College, and Modern Art Oxford are all walkable from the studios.
  • Cowley Road has good food. G&D's Ice Cream, Najar's Place, and Aladin Indian are all within five minutes of the studios.
  • Bring photo ID. Some Oxford venues check; the Ruskin doesn't, but if you are continuing to a college, you may need it.
  • Sunday is usually quieter. Tutors and visitors lean toward Saturday.
  • Allow at least 90 minutes for the show itself.
