UWE Bristol Showcase 2026: dates, venues, and what to expect

UWE Bristol's annual Showcase is one of the most distributed degree shows in the UK. Work is spread across four venues: the Bower Ashton campus, Spike Island for Fine Art, the Arnolfini for Graphic Design and Photography, and the Frenchay Campus for Architecture and Product Design. The 2026 dates are confirmed: public hours run from Friday 5 June to Wednesday 10 June 2026 with invitation-only opening nights on 4 and 5 June. A digital Showcase launches on 1 June 2026.

When is the Showcase 2026?

The Showcase is split between two campuses with offset opening evenings:

  • Frenchay Campus opens with an invitation-only opening night on Thursday 4 June 2026, then public from Friday 5 June.
  • City Campus venues (Bower Ashton, Spike Island, Arnolfini) open with an invitation-only PV on Friday 5 June 2026, then public from Saturday 6 June.

Both campuses are open through 10 June, with Monday 8 June closed. Last entry is recommended an hour before close on each day.

The digital Showcase at showcase.uwe.ac.uk launches a week before the physical show, on Monday 1 June 2026, and stays live afterwards as an alumni portfolio archive.

Where to find each show

Four venues across Bristol.

  • Bower Ashton (UWE School of Art and Design): Kennel Lodge Road, Bristol BS3 2JT. The main UWE art and design campus on the south side of the city.
  • Spike Island (UWE Fine Art): 133 Cumberland Road, Bristol BS1 6UX. The contemporary art venue and studios; UWE Fine Art shows here as part of the Showcase.
  • Arnolfini (UWE Graphic Design and Photography): 16 Narrow Quay, Bristol BS1 4QA. Bristol's flagship contemporary arts centre on the harbourside; UWE Graphic Design and Photography show here.
  • Frenchay Campus: Coldharbour Lane, Bristol BS16 1QY. UWE's main north Bristol campus; Architecture, Product Design, Creative Technologies, and Engineering show here.

Getting there:

  • Rail: Bristol Temple Meads is the closest station for the Arnolfini and Spike Island. Both are about 15 to 20 minutes walk along the harbour.
  • Bus: Bower Ashton is a short bus ride from the city centre on multiple First Bristol routes. Frenchay Campus is served by UWE shuttles and First Bristol routes from the city.
  • Cycle: Bristol is well-connected for cycling. The Spike Island, Arnolfini, and Bower Ashton venues are all close to the harbourside cycle network.

Opening nights

Both opening evenings are invitation only:

  • Frenchay Campus: Thursday 4 June 2026, 6pm to 9pm.
  • City Campus PV (Bower Ashton, Spike Island, Arnolfini): Friday 5 June 2026, 6pm to 9pm.

For the public, the Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June weekend at City Campus is the busiest visitor window. Spike Island and Arnolfini are open as standard during the run.

Who is showing

UWE Bristol's Showcase covers a wide curriculum:

  • Bower Ashton (City Campus): Art, Design, Animation, Fashion, Media, Writing, Performance, Photography, and Filmmaking.
  • Spike Island: UWE Fine Art (Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Print).
  • Arnolfini: UWE Graphic Design and Photography.
  • Frenchay Campus: Architecture, Product Design, Creative Technologies, and Engineering.

Cohort sizes are not numerically published for 2026. The combined art and design cohort at UWE is large by UK standards.

What makes UWE Bristol distinctive

Two things stand out.

First, the Spike Island and Arnolfini partnerships. Most degree shows happen in school studios. UWE Fine Art shows at Spike Island, a major contemporary art studio complex with a long exhibition history. UWE Graphic Design and Photography show at Arnolfini, Bristol's main contemporary arts centre on the harbour. Graduates end up exhibiting in rooms that have shown Tony Cragg, Steve McQueen, and Cornelia Parker.

Second, Bristol itself. The city has a strong creative base around Aardman, the Watershed, the BBC Natural History Unit, and the emerging-art scene around Stokes Croft and the harbour. Buyers and commissioning editors who work in the south-west tend to attend UWE shows as a matter of course.

Tips for visiting

  • Plan your venue order. Spike Island and Arnolfini are five minutes apart on the harbour. Bower Ashton requires a bus across the river. Frenchay is a separate trip.
  • Pair Spike Island and Arnolfini. They are walkable from each other and close to plenty of food.
  • Wapping Wharf is the food street. Five minutes from Arnolfini.
  • The harbour is the best route. Walk between venues along Bristol's Floating Harbour for the views.
  • Bower Ashton has limited food. Bring a snack or come back to the city.
  • Frenchay is a half-day on its own. Don't try to combine with City Campus in one day.
